joining the Westhaven Chess Club!
We will meet Wednesdays from 5:15 PM - 6:15 PM at the Westhaven Residents’ Club 401 Cheltenham Avenue.
Fall Semester Meeting Dates- August 24, 31 Sept. 7, 14, 21, 28 October 5, 19, 26 November 2, 16, 30 December 7, 14 We meet in the Townsend Hall Meeting Room or Art Room. Both are located directly upstairs.
Why chess? Chess is fun and competitive but it also offers lasting educational benefits such as enhanced problem solving and logical reasoning skills, increased attention span, improved patience and self-esteem, and there is direct correlation between chess and increased math and reading standardized test scores. It’s so much more than just a game!
Who can join the club? -Beginner and Intermediate Players
-Students in K-12th Grades
What will we learn? -All the basics and rules to play the game
-Advanced tricks and strategies to win
-Tournament readiness and being part of a team
20 spots available. All students will get a Gold Membership ($49 value) to ChessKid.com to utilize along with our in class curriculum. ChessKid is a 100% safe site where only the coach and parent accounts assigned to each specific student are able to communicate with students.
All students also receive a a one-year NCC Membership ($45 value) as part of their chess club registration.

The Nashville Chess Center Coach will work to create a competitive Chess Team to go out and compete at various events in the area and state through out the school year (Full schedule will be sent home.) Fees for tournaments and all outside events are additional costs to the families when they choose to compete.
